Don't let "over-protection" harm your children! On Children's Day, let's talk about how to achieve healthy and good skin.

Children's Day has arrived, and we always want to give our children the best. When it comes to skincare, many parents are particularly "dedicated": they bathe their children frequently, scrub them with body wash repeatedly, and apply several layers of skin care products... However, they don't realize that this "dedication" sometimes actually becomes a burden for the children's skin.

A child's skin is naturally not in need of being "too clean".

The skin of infants is only one-third as thick as that of adults. The functions of sebaceous glands and sweat glands are not yet fully developed. The weakly acidic sebum layer on the surface is their most precious "natural protective coat". This protective layer can not only retain moisture but also resist the invasion of external bacteria and irritants.

Excessive cleaning and frequent use of cleaning products will directly damage this protective barrier. The result is usually: the more you wash your skin, the drier it becomes; the more you care for it, the more sensitive it becomes - dryness, peeling, eczema, redness and itching follow one after another. Many parents mistakenly think it's because "it wasn't washed thoroughly" or "the product wasn't good enough", but in fact, it's the opposite - it's because "you washed it too hard".

Four principles for achieving healthy skin

First, control the frequency. There is no need for "bathing every day".

For infants, 2-3 baths per week are sufficient. Even in summer, as long as there is no excessive sweating or obvious dirtiness, a quick rinse with clean water will do. Frequent bathing will prevent the skin from having time to repair its lipid layer.

Secondly, the water temperature should be "moderate" and the duration should be "short".

Many parents are afraid that their children will catch a cold, so they tend to use water that is a bit hot. In fact, water at a temperature of 37-38℃ is the most suitable. The bathing time should be controlled within 5-10 minutes to avoid prolonged soaking which can cause the skin's stratum corneum to become overly hydrated and the barrier function to decline.

Thirdly, when using body wash, it is important to use it sparingly.

Choose a baby-specific body wash with a slightly acidic pH level (5.5 - 6.5), without fragrances, pigments, or complex ingredients. But remember: You don't need to use it every time you bathe. Using it 1-2 times a week is sufficient. Focus on cleaning the folds such as under the armpits and groin, and just rinse the limbs and torso with water. Never use adult body wash or soap for children, and definitely avoid applying "mud-like" substances to them.

Fourth, moisturize promptly after bathing, but avoid applying too thick a layer.

Within 3 minutes after bathing, gently dry your body with a soft towel (do not rub) and immediately apply a children's-specific moisturizing lotion or body cream. The amount applied should make your skin feel smooth and not sticky. There is no need to use multiple layers of talcum powder, skin oil, or body lotion simultaneously; doing so may clog your pores.

Special reminder: These "loves" are actually "harm"

Repeatedly wiping the entire body with disinfectant wipes → The disinfectant components will disrupt the balance of skin bacteria.

Taking a bath with body wash twice a day → Accelerates the loss of sebum

Applying adult functional skin care products (such as those for whitening and anti-aging) to a child's face → The irritating ingredients may cause dermatitis.

After washing, apply a large amount of talcum powder immediately → When the powder mixes with sweat, it can easily clog the pores, which instead may cause heat rash.

The best care is "giving up appropriately"

Children's skin has a strong ability to self-repair. What parents should do is not "doing everything for it", but "not disturbing its normal functioning". Maintain moderate cleanliness and do not intervene excessively. The skin will naturally grow healthily.

This Children's Day, why not give the child's skin a break as well? Less bathing, less use of body wash, less application of cream - you will find that the child's skin becomes smoother and more stable. True love is knowing "when to do less".
